Poteet's first Abbreviated Portrait in the Series is of Marilyn Monroe.

Poteet on MRLN MNRO:

Why not Marilyn Monroe? After all, I knew Andy Warhol personally. I don't see Marilyn as Warhol did...there is only one image that stands out in my mind, the image of her in the 1955 movie, The Seven Year Itch. She stands over a subway grate, smiling with her beautiful big red lips, holding down her white dress from the blast of wind rising from below. The essence of her is this iconic image distilled to it's most pure form...white dress, red lips, beauty mark.

On the painting I applied a high-gloss finish over the red square (her lipstick) while the rest of the painting is matte. The matte finish is her
personna...the way I see her.

Of course this is not the first painting of a red square inside a white square. However, it is definitely the first that includes a black circle
(indicating a beauty mark) and named MRLN MNRO.
